Diagrams and Graphs
2008-2020
I have been able to initiate visual language, diagrams and graphs, methods that can speak universally; it is a form that can communicate diverse audiences from different backgrounds nationally and internationally.
In my project “Voicelessness and Voice” I used the diagrammatic method as a map that deconstructs time, space and movements on my personal narrative, and projecting the never-ending process of self- discovery. The concept behind this map is the use of numbers to dictate age, days spent over many geographic landscapes, and miles travelled.
However, this method helped me as well, to transform my understanding of the Post-Colonial Theorist’s readings in my artistic practice. It facilitates accessibility to issues of exile, displacement and diasporic identity in the age of global movements. Not only maintaining self awareness towards conflicted inner lives and nomadic experiences of displaced individuals, but also to represent them in a poetic manner.
